Dr. Timothy Gadson - Developing a Rigorous, Inclusive Curriculum

Currently residing in Utah, Timothy Gadson, Ph.D., has developed curriculums and delivered academic results at the highest levels for almost three decades. As superintendent of the Salt Lake City School District, Dr. Timothy Gadson was tasked with managing a $330 million budget and ensuring that budgeting was directed to maximize teaching and learning and improve student achievement. Dr. Gadson boosted school-level administrative support and placed at least one assistant principal in every school. At the same time, he brought in extra resources in support of underperforming schools and established a graduation cohort tracking program to accelerate graduation rates. He continues to work with the education board as a consultant sharing his expertise and institutional knowledge. In a past position as director of high school operations with the Austin Independent School District, Dr. Timothy Gadson successfully implemented measures that boosted the overall graduation rate to a new high of 84 percent. When disaggregating graduation data from his time in Austin, Dr. Gadson's leadership led to increases in the graduation rates of economically disadvantaged students attending district schools, as well as among Black and Hispanic students. His efforts toward providing an inclusive education extended to English language learners and students with special needs.
